Crutch Upcycled Bar Table by Rodney Allen Trice

This Upcycled Bar Table is made with old reclaimed crutches. If you’ve been in crutches you know the feeling. Getting from one place to another becomes a hassle. Unfortunately, crutches are an object we don’t normally like to have lying around our house once we’re done with them. In most cases, we want them out! It’s an easy way of forgetting about negative past moments of our lives.  If you’ve never been in crutches, good for you! You’re a very lucky person and we hope you never have to.

We find something very romantic about crutches though. They are a symbol of persistence. They are an icon of our struggles. We should show more love for them. After all they’ve kept us up in our worst moments and don’t deserve to be thrown away. The wood used in old crutches is actually quite beautiful.

One thing very few people ask themselves is where do crutches end up once we get them out of our houses. If you’re in NYC, chances are your old crutches end up in the hands of Rodney Allen Trice. This eclectic creator, and master upcycler seems to find them all around the city. He never hesitates to bring them back to his studio with him. Often not knowing they’re final use. It could be a Table, or it could be, like in this case, a nice upcycled bar table. We know you love it. We do.

Made with 8 crutches, this upcycled bar table is a statement in itself. The crutches are held together by a steel wire that connects them. The functionality of this piece is topped with a plywood counter top adorned with an elegant steel rod border. You’re drinks won’t tip off easily!

Buying this piece, means buying a statement of modern and sustainable design. The first Upcycled Bar Table was auctioned at Christies in NYC for The Cooper-Hewitt: The Smithsonian Design Museum.
